Congratulations to Lindsey Snaychuk, Master’s student in the ADMH Lab, on her recent publication:
“Co-Occurring Obsessive–Compulsive Disorder and Compulsive Sexual Behavior: Clinical Features and Psychiatric Comorbidities” in Archives of Sexual Behavior.
This study, conducted in collaboration with colleagues in Brazil, examined the clinical characteristics of individuals with co-occurring obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and compulsive sexual behavior (CSB) using data from 950 patients seeking treatment for OCD.
What Did We Find?
- 3.8% of the sample met diagnostic criteria for both OCD and CSB.
- Men were significantly more likely to meet criteria for both OCD and CSB.
- Individuals with co-occurring OCD and CSB experienced greater psychiatric comorbidities, particularly impulse-control disorders.
- Findings suggest the need for tailored interventions targeting externalizing symptoms and impulse-control-related vulnerabilities in this population.
